UPSC Notification dated 13/05/2021: Due to the prevailing conditions caused by the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), the Union Public Service Commission has deferred the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021, which was scheduled to be held on 27th June, 2021. Now, this Examination will be held on 10th October, 2021.

In light on this, Aspirants can try the following updated strategy:

  • Days to Prelims from today i.e. 13/05/2021 to 10/10/2021: 150 Days.
  • Time of 150 days is enough for complete Prelims preparation from scratch.
  • Here I am dividing strategy into two parts. First is for those who have already prepared well for Prelims 2021 while second for those who didn’t.

Strategy for those who prepared well for Prelims 2021:

  • New schedule of Mains exam isn’t declared. If time between Prelims and Mains is less then Mains preparation in advance will come handy.
  • You can dedicate next 80 days solely to Mains preparation as you are already thorough with Prelims part. Complete static portions of Mains like Optional, Essay, GS-1 and GS-4. Practice 1-2 Mains answers daily. You can practice 1 Prelims Mock Test every now and then just to be in touch with Prelims preparation.
  • Remaining 70 days ahead of Prelims shall be dedicated to Prelims revision and Prelims test practice. In this time period also, you can still practice 1-2 Mains answers daily to be in touch with Mains preparation.
  • Current Affairs: 15-18 months of current is needed as I have explained multiple times. So for Prelims 2021, originally scheduled on 27/06/2021, I had advised to prepare current affairs from March 2020 to May 2021 end. i.e. 15 Months. Now, you have to add current affairs of June, July, August and September (Till 10-15 Sept) for Prelims. This is anyway needed for Mains. Current Affairs Preparation detailed strategy.

Strategy for those who have not prepared well for Prelims 2021:

  • If not confident about prelims, then focus on prelims along with optional and answer writing (1-2 questions daily). You cant leave Mains preparation altogether as time between Prelims and Mains might be less this year.
  • Your overall target for Prelims Mock Tests should be solving 40-50 papers through the course of your preparation. So, if you have already reached that target, revise the mock tests and then only attempt new tests.
  • If you were thinking of skipping of this year attempt due to lack of preparation then this postponement is blessing in disguise for you.
